Dr. Dominic J. Marino,
Chief of Staff
graduated with honors from Auburn
University in Alabama, where he received both his Bachelor of
Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. He completed a
one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the
University of Georgia and a three-year comprehensive residency in
small animal orthopedic, soft tissue and neurosurgery at the Animal
Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Marino was honored with both
the Martin and Beatrice Weiser outstanding research award and the
North Shore Animal League Petering Scholarship award during his
residency. He is board certified by The American College of
Veterinary Surgeons and is the former head of
Orthopedic/Neurosurgery service at The Animal Medical Center in New
York City.
Dr. Marino has published many scientific articles, and
authored chapters in veterinary medical textbooks. He lectures
extensively on many surgical topics including soft tissue,
orthopedic and neurosurgery. In 1999, Dr. Marino was given the
alumni achievement award by the Auburn University College of
Veterinary Medicine and in 2000, was honored with the Alex Lewyt
Veterinary Medical Center award for achievement by the North Shore
Animal League. Dr. Marino served as chairman of the Eastern
Veterinary Orthopedic Society for several years and is on the
National Advisory Board of North Shore Animal League America. He is
currently the chairman of the Department of Surgery, and the Chief
of Staff at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, NY. Dr.
Marino serves as the surgical consultant to: The Humane Society of
New York, NY; Nassau University Medical Center, Uniondale, NY; North
Shore Animal League America, Port Washington, NY; Bide-A-Wee Animal
Adoption Center, Wantagh, NY; The Guide Dog Foundation, Smithtown,
NY; Sweet Briar Nature Preserve, Smithtown, NY; and is an active
member of the Police Surgeons Benevolent Association. Dr. Marino’s
areas of special interest include joint replacement surgery,
neurosurgery and trauma involving the nervous system.
Mr.
Brian McKenna,
Hospital Administrator
graduated from
Farmingdale University where he received his Associates of Science degree in
Veterinary Technology. He then attended Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York,
where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Technology. Mr.
McKenna spent several years as the triage nurse in emergency centers in the
tri-state area. He became the senior operating nurse at Island Veterinary
Referral in Levittown, NY and worked closely with Dr. Marino for many years. Mr.
McKenna served as the operating room supervisor with the Department of Surgery
at Long Island Veterinary Specialists where he directly supervised all high-risk
surgical cases as well as, coordinated the day-to-day functions of the surgery
department. He has been serving as the assistant
hospital administrator for several years and has been instrumental in the
management of the day to day operations of the hospital. As the current hospital
administrator, Mr. McKenna is part of an administrative team which includes Mrs.
Barbara Burnett, Chief Financial Officer, and Dr. Dominic J. Marino, Chief of
Staff, that is responsible for managing the medical, financial, and personnel
aspects of the entire institution.

Ms.
Barbara J. Burnett, Chief Financial Officer oversees all areas
of
finance and accounting. She received a Bachelor of Science degree
from Long Island University and possesses extensive business and office
management experience. Ms. Burnett is skilled in cash flow management,
financial reporting, budgets, employee benefits administration, and
management information systems.
Prior to her position at Long
Island Veterinary Specialists, Ms. Burnett was controller of
Technology Flavors & Fragrances, Inc., a Long Island manufacturing
firm. With over 20 years experience in all areas of accounting,
finance, and business management, Ms. Burnett effectively monitors
the financial operations of Long Island Veterinary Specialists and
the Animal Emergency & Critical Care Center.
Ms.
Anne Louise Serenson,
BS,LVT,LAHT , Hospital Manager
is a licensed animal health technician and received her Bachelor of
Science from Virginia Polytechnical Institute. While running the daily
operations of the LIVS facility she oversees the supervisors in each
area of the hospital and reports regularly to the chairs of each
department.
Ms. Serenson has extensive experience
as both an operations manager and director of information systems for
several veterinary corporations. With more than twenty years experience
in the animal health field, as well as an extensive managerial and
computer system background, Ms. Serenson has been instrumental in
bringing our vision of a veterinary specialty center to life. Ms.
Serenson is an important liaison between support staff, medical staff,
