When a pet is
brought to our hospital for care, family members often have many
questions. We hope the information provided will help you understand how
we deliver specialized dermatologic veterinary care and help ease any
concerns your family may have.
General Information
Dr.
Rada Panich, Long Island’s only Diplomate of the American
College
of Veterinary
Dermatology, is available to serve your pet’s dermatologic needs Monday through Friday on a referral basis from your family
veterinarian. Dermatology team members include specially trained nurses
who both assist Dr. Panich and work in the allergy vaccine laboratory.
After the consultation with the
dermatology department, your family veterinarian will be informed of
your pet’s condition by written report and fax within 48 hours of your
visit. Additional updates are provided regarding new developments found
at all recheck visits.
Laboratory reports and biopsy findings are reported on a daily basis as
results become available. Most results are available within 5 business
days. If you have not received results within 5 business days, please
call our office and leave a message for the dermatology department and a
staff member will return your call.
Allergy test results are typically reported within three weeks of
submission to the laboratory. Members of the dermatology department will
contact you to discuss allergy test results as soon as they are
available. If you have not been contacted by three weeks, please call
Long Island Veterinary Specialists and leave a message with the
dermatology department nurses. Your call will be returned within 48
hours.

Allergy vaccines are formulated at our in-house laboratory within 24
hours based on test results, clinical signs and the patient’s history.
Allergy vaccines may be ordered by simply contacting the Dermatology
Services. A serum pickup consult is scheduled so that a member of the
dermatology staff administers the first dose of the vaccine. Staff
members will carefully review the schedule/dose protocol with you and
demonstrate how to administer the vaccine at home.
After Hours
Should a
problem arise after normal business hours, the Dermatology
Department is covered by the
Animal Emergency and
Critical Care
Center
at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. It is always best to call in
advance when possible, however, if problems arise, do not hesitate to
bring your pet in immediately. This facility is staffed 24-hours by
veterinarians and nurses ready to assist you and your pet.
