Internal
Medicine Department Staff
Dr. Joshua W. Tumulty,
Chairman
graduated with honors from the University of Findlay in Findlay,
Ohio, where he received both a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor
of Arts degree. He received his Doctorate in Veterinary
Medicine from Ohio State University, where he was awarded the
Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine Award for
Excellence in Small Animal Medicine. Dr. Tumulty completed a
one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery, and a
two-year residency in small animal internal medicine at the
Animal Medical Center in New York City. While a resident, Dr.
Tumulty received the Outstanding Veterinarian Award for
Excellence. He is board certified by The American College of
Veterinary Internal Medicine and is currently on staff with the
Department of Internal Medicine at Long Island Veterinary
Specialists. Dr. Tumulty’s areas of interest include:
endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology/urology, and
respiratory disease.
Dr. Susanne Michelle
Govier, a native New Yorker has
returned to her roots after receiving her doctorate of
Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary
Medicine, where she was awarded the Veterinary Colleague Award.
Dr. Govier completed a one-year internship in small animal
general medicine and surgery and a two-year residency in small
animal internal medicine at The Animal Medical Center in New
York City. Dr. Govier has been published on the current
principles of treatment for mast cell tumors and has lectured on
the east coast. Susanne’s areas of special interest include
nephrology, gastroenterology and endocrinology.

Dr. Kerry J. Heuter
attended Boston
University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Dr. Heuter
then graduated from The Ohio State University where he received his
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and was awarded the Dr. J.
Salisbury Foundation Veterinary Medical Scholarship and Phi Zeta
Veterinary Honor Society awards. He completed a one-year internship in
small animal medicine and surgery at the
Animal
Medical Center in New York City.
Following his internship, Dr. Heuter completed a two-year residency in
small animal medicine at the Animal
Medical Center. He is board
certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Internal Medicine). Dr. Heuter served
as a staff veterinarian at the
Animal Medical Center and has special
training in Dialysis. In addition, Dr. Heuter served as a staff
veterinarian and intern advisor at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists in
San Leandro, CA. Dr. Heuter has published many scientific articles and has lectured
extensively on a variety of Internal Medicine Topics.
Dr. Gregory L. Panarello graduated
with honors from Wagner College
in
Staten Island, New York, where he received his Bachelors of Science
degree. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the
University of Florida, where he was the recipient of Academic
Achievement Awards. Dr. Panarello completed his emergency and critical
care internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists, and is currently
completing his residency requirements for certification with the
American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care under the
mentorship of Dr. Nancy Saunders, Dip.ACVIM, Dip.ACVECC.
He attends conferences with all specialty
departments at Long Island Veterinary Specialists, as well as weekly
lectures with the critical care department at the University of
Pennsylvania. Dr. Panarello has authored articles for the “Society
for Neuro Science Journal” and has been the Director of Emergency
and Critical Care Department at Long Island Veterinary Specialists since
1998. His special interests include ischemia, reperfusion injury,
sepsis, and avian/exotic emergencies.
