Oncology Department Staff

 Medical Oncology Staff

Dr. Theresa Arteaga attended the University of California, Riverside where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree.  She then attended Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.  Dr. Arteaga completed a one-year small animal medical and surgical internship at the Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles, and completed a comprehensive three-year residency in Medical Oncology at the Animal Medical Center in New York City.  Dr. Arteaga participated in a rotation on the Breast Cancer Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering, and has published scientific articles and lectures on a variety of oncology topics.


 Surgical Oncology Staff

Dr. Dominic J. Marino graduated with honors from Auburn University in Alabama, where he received both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. He completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Georgia and a three-year comprehensive residency in small animal orthopedic, soft tissue and neurosurgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Marino was honored with both the Martin and Beatrice Weiser Outstanding Research Award and the North Shore Animal League Petering Scholarship Award during his residency. He is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and is the former head  of Orthopedic/Neurosurgery service at the Animal Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Marino has published many scientific articles, and authored chapters in veterinary medical textbooks. He lectures extensively on many surgical topics including soft tissue, orthopedic and neurosurgery. In 1999, Dr. Marino was given the Alumni Achievement Award by the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and in 2000, was honored with the Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center Award for achievement by the North Shore Animal League. Dr. Marino served as chairman of the Eastern Veterinary Orthopedic Society for several years and is on the National Advisory Board of North Shore Animal League America. He is currently the chairman of the Department of Surgery, and the Chief of Staff at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, NY. Dr. Marino serves as the surgical consultant to: The Humane Society of New York, NY; Nassau University Medical Center, Uniondale, NY; North Shore Animal League America, Port Washington, NY; Bide-A-Wee Animal Adoption Center, Wantagh, NY; The Guide Dog Foundation, Smithtown, NY; Sweet Briar Nature Preserve, Smithtown, NY; and is an active member of the Police Surgeons Benevolent Association. Dr. Marino’s areas of special interest include joint replacement surgery, neurosurgery and trauma involving the nervous system.

Dr. Jacqueline Carver graduated with honors from Colorado State University where she received both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. She completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and was awarded the Intern of the Year Award by the faculty. Following her internship, Dr. Carver completed a three year comprehensive residency in small animal orthopedics, soft tissue and neurosurgery at the Animal Medical Center. She is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Carver served as the Director of Surgery at the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, NY, and, in 2000, was honored with the Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center Award for achievement by North Shore Animal League America.

Dr. Carver has published many scientific articles and lectures extensively on a variety of surgical topics. She is currently on staff with the Department of Surgery at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Carver’s areas of special interest include cardiovascular, urogenital and exotic animal surgery.

Dr. Margaret Puccio attended Rutgers University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. She then graduated from Cornell University where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. During her senior year in veterinary school, Dr. Puccio received the prestigious American College of Veterinary Surgeons Award. She completed a one-year comprehensive internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and a post-graduate surgical internship under the direction of Dr. Dominic J. Marino. Dr. Puccio completed her three- year surgical residency with the Department of Surgery at the Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, and is boarded by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. She has focused her research efforts studying canine elbow dysplasia in clinical cases and recently completed a clinical investigation with the help of the Guide Dog Foundation in Smithtown, NY. Dr. Puccio enjoys  all aspects of soft tissue, orthopedic and neurosurgery.

Dr. Rosemary Lombardi attended St. Bonaventure University where she earned a bachelors of Science degree in Biology. She then graduated from Ross University where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and was awarded the Large and Small Animal Proficiency Awards. She completed a one-year comprehensive internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta, Georgia and a post- graduate surgical internship under the direction of Dr. Dominic J. Marino at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Lombardi completed her surgical residency requirements for certification in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons with the Department of Surgery at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview. She has focused her research efforts studying canine perianal fistula disease. Dr. Lombardi enjoys all aspects of soft tissue, orthopedic and neurosurgery.

Dr. Catherine Loughin graduated from the University of Michigan, where she received her Bachelor of Science. She then attended Michigan State University, where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and was the recipient of the Berrien County Kennel Club Scholarship award. She completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery and a post- graduate surgical internship under the direction of Dr. Dominic J. Marino at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. She has published articles on splenic disease in dogs, patella luxations in cats and intervertebral disc extrusion surgery in dogs. Currently, she is engaged in a three-year comprehensive residency in small animal orthopedic, soft tissue and neurosurgery at Long Island Veterinary specialists. Dr. Loughin enjoys all aspects of soft tissue, orthopedic and neurosurgery.
