Joseph D. Stefanacci, VMD, Diplomate

Dr. Stefanacci
received his Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in 1979 from
the Pennsylvania State University. He attended veterinary school at
the University of Pennsylvania and obtained his VMD in 1983.
Following six years of private small animal practice in Philadelphia,
Dr. Stefanacci completed a three year residency in radiology and
alternate imaging (ultrasound, CT, MRI, nuclear scintigraphy) at the
North Carolina State college of Veterinary Medicine. In 1993, he
became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology
and joined the staff of the Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York
City.
He chaired the
department of radiology for ten years and was the director of education where he
coordinated all internal and international continuing education
programs for post-graduate studies. He created a shared continuing
education program that provided the four local veterinary medical
societies in the metropolitan New York area with nationally
recognized speakers annually and served as the liaison between the AMC and the international veterinary community. Dr. Stefanacci
served on various committees while at AMC, including the intern
selection committee, medical executive committee and the
reconstruction planning committee.
He joined the staff of Long Island Veterinary
Specialists in 2001 and has been the chairman of the Department of
Radiology since 2002. Dr. Stefanacci has
directly supervised the advancements in the radiology department
including the addition of MRI, nuclear medicine, and radioiodine (I131)
therapy. Dr. Stefanacci has authored and co-authored numerous
articles and narratives published in the veterinary literature, and
lectures at local, national, and international veterinary
conferences.
