Dominic J. Marino,
DVM, DACVS, DACCT, CCRP
graduated
with
honors from Auburn University in Alabama, where he received both his
Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. He
completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery
at the University of Georgia and a three-year comprehensive
residency in small animal orthopedic, soft tissue and neurosurgery
at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Marino was
honored with both the Martin and Beatrice Weiser Outstanding
Research Award and the North Shore Animal League Petering
Scholarship Award during his residency. He is board certified by the
American College of Veterinary Surgeons and is the former head of
Orthopedic/Neurosurgery service at the Animal Medical Center in New
York City.

Dr. Marino is one
of a handful of veterinary surgeons certified as a Canine
Rehabilitation Practitioner. He is one of only two veterinarians to
become board certified by The American College of Clinical
Thermology where he was granted the status of research fellow.
Dr Marino has
published many scientific articles, and authored chapters in
veterinary medical textbooks.He lectures extensively both nationally
and internationally on many surgical topics including soft tissue,
orthopedic and neurosurgery at both human and veterinary
conferences. Dr. Marino served as chairman of the Eastern Veterinary
Orthopedic Society for several years and as a member on the National
Advisory Board of North Shore Animal League America.
Dr. Marino is
the current Chief of Staff at Long Island Veterinary Specialists
where he also serves as Chairman of the Surgery Department. He is
the director of The Canine Chiari Institute at Long Island
Veterinary Specialists and on the board of directors of The New York
Veterinary Foundation and the Police Surgeons Benevolent
Association. Dr. Marino serves as the surgical consultant to: The
Humane Society of New York, NY; Nassau University Medical Center,
Uniondale, NY; North Shore Animal League America, Port Washington,
NY; Bide-A-Wee Animal Adoption Center, West Hampton Beach, NY; The
Guide Dog Foundation, Smithtown, NY; Sweet Briar Nature Preserve,
Smithtown, NY; New York City Police Department, Metropolitan
Transit Authority Police Department, Nassau County Police
Department, Nassau County Corrections, Department of Homeland
Security TSA canine unit and Air Marshall’s canine unit, the Port
Authority canine unit, and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
Jacqueline Carver, DVM, DACVS
graduated with honors from Colorado State University where she
received both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine degrees. She completed a one-year internship in small
animal medicine and surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York
City and was awarded the Intern of the Year Award by the faculty.
Following her internship, Dr. Carver completed a three-year
comprehensive residency in small animal orthopedics, soft tissue and
neurosurgery at The Animal Medical Center. She is board certified by
the American college of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Carver served as
the Director of Surgery at The North Shore Animal League in Port
Washington, NY and in 2000, was honored with the Alex Lewyt
Veterinary Medical Center award for achievement by North Shore
Animal League America.
Dr. Carver has published many scientific
articles and lectures extensively on a variety of surgical topics.
She is currently on staff with the Department of Surgery at Long
Island Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Carver’s areas of special
interest include cardiovascular, urogenital, and exotic animal
surgery.
Ann Bilderback,
DVM, DACVIM (neurology)
graduated with honors from Dartmouth College, where she received her
Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and
then graduated with distinction from Cornell University where is
received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. During her senior
year of veterinary school, Dr. Bilderback was honored with the Merck
Manual Award, the American Animal Hospital Association Award, the
Neuroanatomy and Clinical Prize and the Grant Sherman Hopkins Prize.
She then completed a comprehensive one-year Rotating Small Animal
Internship and a three-year veterinary Neurology/Neurosurgery
Residency at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, Foster
Hospital for Small Animals. Dr. Bilderback is boarded by the
American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology).She has
lectured on a variety of neurology/ neurosurgery topics and has
published articles in scientific journals. Studies of research that
she has been involved with include Transfrontal Craniectomy,
Radiation Therapy, and/or Chemotherapy in the Treatment of Canine
Meningiomas and Immunohistochemistry of Primary Brain Tumors in
Dogs. Dr. Bilderback’s areas of special interest include seizure
management and non-infectious encephalitis.

Curtis
W. Dewey,
DVM, MS, DACVS, DACVIM (neurology)
graduated from Cornell
University, where he received both his Bachelor of Science and
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. He completed a one-year
internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of
Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Following his internship, he
completed a three-year comprehensive residency at the University of
Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and earned a Master of
Science degree in anatomy. At the University of California College
of Veterinary Medicine, he completed a two-year comprehensive
residency in neurology and neurosurgery. Dr. Dewey is board
certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the
American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology). He has
served as the Director of Neurology at the College of Veterinary
Medicine, Texas A&M University, and serves on the editorial review
boards of several scientific journals. He has recently completed a
comprehensive veterinary neurology textbook, A Practical Guide to
Canine and Feline Neurology, and is an international authority on
topics in veterinary neurology.
He is a member of the board of directors of The New York Veterinary
Foundation and a senior clinician at the Canine Chiari Institute at
Long Island Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Dewey’s areas of special
interest include neurosurgery, trauma involving the nervous system,
myasthenia gravis and magnetic resonance imaging.

Catherine A. Loughin,
DVM,
DACVS, DACCT
earned
a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, from which she
graduated in 1995. She then attended Michigan State University, where she
received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2000, and was the recipient
of the Berrien County Kennel Club Scholarship award. Dr. Loughin completed a
one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery, a post-graduate
surgical internship and a comprehensive three-year residency in small animal
orthopedic, soft tissue and neurosurgery under the direction of Dr. Dominic J.
Marino at Long Island Veterinary Specialists.
Dr. Loughin is board certified by the American College of Veterinary
Surgeons and the American College of Clinical Thermology and was
granted research fellow status by the latter. She has published
scientific articles on a variety of surgical topics and is
responsible for establishing the “standards for thermal imaging” in
the dog. Currently, as a senior member of The Canine Chiari
Institute, she is a frequent lecturer both at national and
international conferences and is the principle investigator of
several clinical studies. Dr. Loughin’s interests include all
aspects of soft tissue, orthopedic and neurosurgery.

Tomas Infernuso, DVM
attended the University of Naples,
Fredrick II School of Veterinary Medicine and after receiving a
one-year scholarship to the University of Madrid, Spain, graduated
from the Las Palmas University, Spain, School of Veterinary
Medicine.
Dr. Infernuso moved to the United
States where he continued his studies at Cornell University. After a
comprehensive one-year internship in small animal medicine and
surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, Dr. Infernuso
completed the surgical residency requirements for certification in
the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2010 at Long Island
Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, NY under the direction of Dr.
Dominic J. Marino. Dr. Infernuso is currently engaged in a research
project involving nasal passage disease, comparing surgical
approaches with less invasive techniques. Dr. Infernuso is fluent in
3 languages, English, Spanish and Italian. He enjoys all aspects of
surgery with special interests in endoscopy, arthroscopy and all
non-invasive procedures.

Brian P. Grossbard,
DVM, a native of Florida, graduated with honors
from the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he received
both his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Biology and Doctor of
Veterinary Medicine degree. Dr. Grossbard then completed a one-year
internship in Small Animal Surgery, Critical Care and Medicine at
Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. He went on to
complete an intensive one-year internship in Surgery and a post
graduate one-year internship in Neurology at Long Island Veterinary
Specialists.
Dr. Grossbard is currently
completing requirements for certification by the American College of
Veterinary Surgeons under the direction of Dr. Dominic J. Marino
with the Department of Surgery at Long Island Veterinary
Specialists. Dr. Grossbard is certified in Stem Cell Therapy and is
currently involved in research involving diagnostic imaging and
surgery in patients with traumatic spinal cord injury. His areas of special
interest include neurosurgery, minimally invasive orthopedic surgery
and soft tissue surgical oncology.
Shadi Ireifej,
DVM
graduated from the State University of New York, Binghamton in
Binghamton, NY, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in
Biology. He then attended Cornell University where he received his
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Dr. Ireifej was the recipient
of many awards while in veterinary school including the Pfizer
Dermatology Award. He completed an intensive one-year small animal
medicine and surgery internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in
Boston Massachusetts and an intensive one-year small animal surgery
internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, NY.
Dr. Ireifej is presently completing the surgical residency
requirements for certification in the American College of Veterinary
Surgeons at Long Island Veterinary Specialists under the direction
of Dr. Dominic J. Marino. Dr. Ireifej has lectured locally and has
been published in scientific journals. He enjoys all aspects of
surgery with special interests in joint replacements.
