Emergency Staff

David Chen, DVM is a native Southern Californian. He graduated from the University of California, San Diego where he received his Bachelors of Arts in business and economics with a minor in biology. He attended Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, where he completed a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, Dr. Chen completed an intensive one-year internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Long Island Veterinary and has been practicing emergency medicine at multiple hospitals throughout Long Island and Queens, NY. He is currently on staff with the Department of Emergency and Critical Care at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Chen's areas of special interest include emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine and ultrasonography.

 

 

 

 

Marissa Berman, DVM is a native of South Florida.  She graduated from the University of Florida where she received her Bachelors of Sciences in animal sciences with a minor in zoology.  She attended Western University of Health Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, where she completed a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, Dr. Berman completed an intensive one-year internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. She is currently on staff with the Department of Emergency and Critical Care at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Berman's areas of special interest include emergency medicine, dentistry, oral and facial surgery and ophthalmology.

 

 

 

 

Amanda Pisano, DVM completed her Bachelors of Science in Animal Science with minors in Biology and Wildlife Conservation at the University of Delaware.  She went on to obtain her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine  at Ross University, completing her clinical year at Oklahoma State University.  After graduating veterinary school, Dr. Pisano completed a one year general internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists, where she is now on staff in the Emergency and Critical Care Department.  Her areas of interest include emergency medicine, internal medicine, and exotic species.  She currenty resides on the south shore of Long Island, with her husband, who is also a veterinarian, and their rescue dogs, Trooper and Layla.

 

 

 

 

Olivia Busuttil-Cashman, DVM completed her Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences at SUNY at Plattsburg. She obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed clinical rotations at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals in May 2009. After veterinary school, Dr. Cashman worked at a mixed-animal general practice in Clinton County, NY. She completed an intensive rotating general internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in 2012 and has stayed on as an emergency clinician. Dr. Cashman has special interests in emergency and critical care, neurology, and holistic medicine.

 

 

 

 

Alina Culica, DVM was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania. Dr. Culica completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences at Texas A & M University before she attended Veterinary School, also at Texas A & M University. Upon receiving her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Culica completed an intensive one and a half year internship in Small Animal Surgery and Internal Medicine at Med Vet Memphis, in Memphis, Tennessee, then spent 2 years in a surgical internship on Long Island, following which she practiced emergency medicine throughout Long Island before joining the emergency staff at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. Her areas of interest include surgery, emergency medicine, internal medicine, and neurology

After Hours:  Should a problem arise after normal business hours, all departments are covered by the Animal Emergency and Critical Care Center at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. It is always best to call in advance when possible, however, if problems arise, do not hesitate to bring your pet in immediately. This facility is staffed 24-hours by veterinarians and technicians ready to assist you and your pet.
